  Training course: “Monetary Policy Design in the New Keynesian Model”

The eighth EABCN Training School will be a four-day course on “Monetary Policy Design in the New Keynesian Model” taught by Professors Jordi Galí and Tommaso Monacelli. The objective of the course is to discuss the construction and use of New Keynesian Models in the analysis and design of monetary policy. The lectures will provide an overview of the recent literature on monetary policy design in the context of the New Keynesian framework.  This training school, hosted by CREI and Universitat Pompeu Fabra, will take place in Barcelona from 9- 12 December 2008.

  Seventh EABCN training course on DSGE Models for Quantitative Business Cycle Analysis

The seventh training course took place from 3-7 March 2008, hosted by Banco de España. It focussed on Using DSGE models for Quantitative Business Cycle Analysis. The instructor was Professor Lawrence Christiano, who is is a Professor of Economics at Northwestern University, where he holds the Alfred W. Chase Chair in Business Institutions

  Updated version of the Euro area Real Time database

An updated version of the Euro area Real Time database is now available for download for the fellows of the EABCN. The database now comprises 238 variables and covers vintages up to the end of 2006. The database will be updated at a quarterly frequency from now on.

  First EABCN annual grant awarded
The Euro Area Business Cycle Network (EABCN) has awarded an annual grant to a PhD student for the first time in 2007 with the aim of fostering and promoting research on the analysis of Euro Area issues, in particular related to the Euro Area Business Cycle, and quantitative analyses on European data. The grant is for €5 000 and is awarded with the intent that the student will write a scientific paper with a theme related to the work of the EABCN.
The first grant was awarded to Nicholas Groshenny, Bocconi University, for a project on "Evaluating the Performance of the New-Keynesian Business Cycle Model: A comparison between the US and the Euro Area"

  Sixth EABCN training course on Forecast Evaluation

The sixth training course took place from 10-14 September 2007, hosted by Banco de Portugal. It will focus on Forecast Evaluation and Related Topics in Applied Time Series. The instructor was Professor Kenneth West, Ragnar Frisch Professor of Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

  Updated version of the database underlying the Area Wide Model
An updated version of the database underlying the Area Wide Model by Gabriel Fagan, Jérôme Henry and Ricardo Mestre is now available for download to the fellows of the EABCN. The dataset covers a wide range of quarterly Euro Area macroeconomic time series and has become a standard reference for empirical studies on the Euro Area economy. The corresponding time series for euro area aggregates now cover the period up to 2005q4.
