Catherine Kyrtsou is Assistant Professor in Macroeconomics and Financial Markets at the University of Macedonia, Department of Economics, in Greece. She is also visiting Professor at the Greek Open University and the University of Montpellier I, Associate Researcher with the team of Prof. C. Diebolt at the University of Strasbourg, Scientific Expert at the University of Luxembourg and Associate Member of the Institut des Systèmes Complexes de Paris, Ile-de-France. She holds degrees from the University of Macedonia (B.A in Economics in 1995), and the University of Montpellier I (DEA in 1997 and Doctorat in Economics in 2002). Professor Kyrtsou was member of the scientific committee of more than 40 international conferences and Chairperson of the 2nd WSEAS International Conference on Nonlinear Analysis, Nonlinear Systems, and Chaos, in Athens. She is an economist especially attached to the applications of nonlinear methods in financial markets, identification of economic cycles, agent-based approaches, non-linear monetary dynamics, monetary policy, chaotic dynamics and economic complexity. Her work has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed publications including Empirical Economics, Computational Economics, Studies in Nonlinear Dynamics and Econometrics, International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, Physica A, Journal of Macroeconomics, Energy Economics, Economic Modelling, International Journal of Applied and Theoretical Finance, Discrete Dynamics in Nature and Society, International Review of Financial Analysis and regularly cited by researchers in various fields of Economics and Finance. Besides, she publishes in the daily Greek economic newspapers Nautemporiki and Investor’s World. She is editor and co-editor of five special issues on economic complexity, short-selling technique and the applications of non-linear analysis in macroeconomics and finance in the Journal of Macroeconomics (in collaboration with T. Palivos), Energy Economics (in collaboration with. A. Malliaris), Brussels Economic Review, European Journal of Finance (in collaboration with D. Sornette), International Review of Financial Analysis. She is also co-editor of two collective volumes: the first “New Trends in Macroeconomics” (in collaboration with C. Diebolt) was published by Springer Verlag (Best Seller, 2005) and the second “Progress in Financial Markets Research” (in collaboration with C. Vorlow) will be published by NOVA publishers New York (forthcoming 2010). Professor Kyrtsou was named on the list of 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century, and included in the Who’s Who in Science and Engineering (2008, 2011-2012), Who’s Who in the World (2008, 2009), Who’s Who of the Complex Systems Society (2010). She is member of the Editorial Board of Cliometrica, and Associate Editor of Brussels Economic Review, European Journal of Finance and International Review of Financial Analysis.
